Undercoating Service Details

Location

All undercoating services are currently performed at our Kingston Shop.

Process

Our undercoating process is meticulously planned to ensure the best results and includes the following steps:

  1. Vehicle Preparation: We cover the entire vehicle and use tape to shield areas that are sensitive to overspray.

  2. Rust Removal: Any loose surface rust on the undercarriage is manually removed to prepare for the undercoating.

  3. Undercarriage Coating: We apply a specialized undercoating to the undercarriage, frame, and inside frame. This helps in preventing future rust formation.

  4. Sealant Wax Application: We clean the lower door jambs and apply a sealant wax. This is a crucial step as these areas are often neglected and are prone to corrosion.

Products Used

We use either Pb Blaster Surface Shield or Fluid Film for the undercoating. These products have the following advantages:

  • Remain Oily: Unlike traditional coatings that harden and chip off, these products stay oily, allowing them to seep into crevices for better protection.

  • Moisture Displacement: They displace moisture rather than trapping it, which is a common issue with rubberized undercoatings.

Maintenance

For optimal results, we recommend that the undercoating be reapplied annually. These products can also be applied over existing surface rust, as they penetrate down to the metal and displace water.
